Time Commitment ⏰ - week 1

⏰ Time Commitment

1. This is a 4.5 unit class

  • It requires a serious time commitment

2. Weekly time you should expect

  • 📚 5 hours → reading or watching videos
  • 💻 10 hours → working on assignments

👉 Total: about 15 hours per week

3. Everyone is different

  • Some students finish faster
  • Some need more time

4. Important tip

  • Try to make a weekly schedule
  • Stick to it every week
  • This makes the class easier to manage

🧩 Assignments

1. Not typical assignments

  • Most CS classes have many small, separate tasks
  • This class is different

2. One big project

  • You will work on one large real-world project
  • It is broken into smaller weekly parts

3. What the project is about

  • You will build a tool
  • It will analyze historical temperature data
  • The data will come from the internet

📅 Assignment Due Dates

1. Weekly deadline

  • Assignments are due:
    • Wednesdays at 11:59 PM

2. Exception

  • Week 2 has two small assignments

⏳ Late Policy

1. Automatic extension

  • You get 2 extra days if needed
  • No need to ask or explain

2. After 2 days

  • ❌ Assignment closes
  • ❌ No more submissions allowed

3. Solution release

  • The teacher will post the solution after it closes

⚠️ Important Canvas Warning

1. Don’t submit at the last second

  • If you submit exactly at 11:59 PM, Canvas may mark it late

2. What to do

  • Submit at least 1 minute early

🔗 Important Reminder

1. Assignments build on each other

  • Each assignment depends on the previous one

👉 So:

  • Falling behind makes things much harder

📝 Tests

1. No exams

  • There are no tests in this class

2. Final project

  • The final is a capstone programming project
  • You must complete it without teacher help
  • You can work with classmates

🧠 Very Simple Summary

  • Spend ~15 hours/week
  • One big project (done step-by-step)
  • Assignments due Wednesday night
  • 2-day free extension
  • Don’t submit at the last minute
  • No tests → final project instead
